Autumn in New York: Rediscovering Beloved Queens Locations

As all of us in Greater Queens and Astoria can attest, each of New York’s four seasons has its own distinctive charm. But here at Farenga Funeral Home, our staff thinks autumn radiates a magic all its own. The air cools, leaves are changing color at every turn, and there’s a sense of coziness and calm that can’t be found during the heat of summer or the chill of winter.

Thanks to our history in the area – Farenga has been a fixture since 1876, providing funeral and cremation services to our neighbors – we have a pulse on what’s happening in our community. We want to remind you to take time out and take advantage of the many seasonal activities available close to home. Life is short – enjoy it!

Breathe in the fresh, fall air at Alley Pond Park: Talk about a serene escape! Spanning more than 655 acres, this Queens oasis is close to the city – yet feels worlds apart. Explore unique, natural features like freshwater and saltwater wetlands, tidal flats, meadows, and forests. And don’t miss a visit to the oldest and tallest tree in New York City: “The Queens Giant.”

Cute Little Girls Pulling Their Pumpkins In A Wagon At A Pumpkin Patch One Fall Day.Find your perfect pumpkin at the Queens Botanical Garden Pumpkin Patch: What’s fall without a trip to the pumpkin patch? Plus, on select days, the QBG Pumpkin Patch features live entertainment and seasonal food vendors. If you’re looking for a beautiful backdrop to snap a few fall photos, this is it!

Get lost in the “Amazing Maize Maze” at the Queens Country Farm Museum: You’ve got to experience a corn maze at least once in your life! Take time to wander the grounds, meander through a pumpkin patch and purchase favorite fall treats including fresh cider, donuts, and apple pie.

If you’re in the mood to stay home, but still relish in the unique aspects of fall, do what we do: Light a fire in the fireplace, sip a cup of hot apple cider, bake a pan of pumpkin bars (or baklava!), and take some time out to think of all you’re grateful for.

No matter how you choose to enjoy the autumn season, remember that our team at Farenga is here for you when you need us. We understand life has its ups and downs, and it’s our privilege to walk alongside our Queens neighbors through it all. Call or stop in anytime.
