Cremation: An Urn Isn’t Your Only Option

If there’s one thing we’ve learned at Farenga Funeral Home during our 140+ years of serving our neighbors in Astoria and Greater Queens, it’s that people in our community want options. That’s why our professional staff designs all our services around you and your needs. That’s also why, as cremation rates continue to surge in our area, we want to provide as many choices for permanent memorialization as possible.

Many families select a cremation casket and urn with a traditional burial in mind, and we have a selection room showcasing top-quality urns at reasonable costs. But there are many other permanent memorialization options we can help arrange for your loved one, including the following:

Keepsake Jewelry

Our emotional attachment to our loved ones does not disappear when they’re no longer with us. Keepsake jewelry allows you to express your devotion to your friend or family member while carrying part of them with you at all times. From rings to necklaces, bracelets to lockets, keychains to rearview mirror memorial ornaments, you will be amazed by the variety of beautiful options. Over the years, we’ve talked with far too many families who regret letting go of all their loved one’s cremated remains. Keepsake jewelry is a tangible way to keep their memory alive for years to come.

Scattering

SeebestattungIf you prefer to scatter the cremated remains, we offer both traditional and creative options. We can perform a burial at sea or even place your cremated remains in a reef on the ocean floor. If there is a meaningful location where you would like to perform a scattering ceremony, we can inform you of the New York health and legal restrictions. You can enhance a scattering ceremony with a dove or balloon release, a violinist playing hymns, or decorate with photographs; whatever is meaningful to you.

Memorial Plaque or Cremation Monument

Some families choose a meaningful location for their loved one’s final resting place by erecting a plaque or other memorial at the place where the remains were scattered. Other families opt to preserve a portion of the remains in an integrated repository of a cremation bench, memorial rock, or grave marker. You can also memorialize a friend or family member by sponsoring a bench in a park where your loved one liked to walk, or at a beach where they vacationed every summer.

Our preplanning specialists are here to further explain these options, and show how cremation can be personalized to fit your needs. In addition, we can help you arrange visitation, funeral service, or graveside burial when you choose cremation. It’s all up to you. We know how meaningful it is to have a permanent memorial where loved ones and future generations can pay their respects.

When it comes time to say goodbye to a loved one, we want to help you tell their story in the most personal way possible. For more information on the cremation arrangement process, call or come by to discuss what is best for you and your family.
