Our Story
Our neighbors in Greater Queens and Astoria rely on us during times of deep grief and loss, and we do not take this responsibility lightly. From helping with the preplanning process to meeting at-need funeral or cremation needs, the Farenga team has been planning unforgettable funeral services since 1876.
Our owner, Gus Antonopoulos, was born and raised in Astoria, and grew up working at Farenga Funeral Home. His mentor was our former owner, Felix A. Farenga, and Felix taught Gus everything he knew about serving families with excellence and compassion. Gus realized as a teenager that he had a true passion for helping his neighbors through life’s difficult moments. For him, planning funeral services is not just a career—it’s a calling. After graduating from high school, Gus attended St. John’s University and the American Academy-McAllister Institute of Funeral Service. He acquired Farenga Funeral Home from his mentor in 1998.
Gus is committed to serving the people of Astoria with love and respect. For him, every detail matters. Whether it’s providing beautiful facilities or seeing that everyone is comfortably seated at the service, at Farenga Funeral Home, everything we do is for you and your family.
