Art in the Garden showcases the work of local artists year-round in both indoor and outdoor spaces. Rockaway Beach
Family-friendly Rockaway Beach thins out in the fall, making it the perfect time to visit. It’s a wonderful place to take a stroll or share a picnic with friends. The 5.5-mile-long boardwalk allows for some top-notch people-watching along with delicious eateries and shops.
Queens County Farm Museum
There’s nowhere better than Queens County Farm Museum for classic fall activities like exploring a pumpkin patch and hopping on a hayride. At Queens Farm you’ll find all this and more, including the only corn maize in NYC—the 3-acre Amazing Maize Maze. (Be sure to bring a flashlight along if you visit later in the day!) While there, swing by seasonal farm stands to purchase fresh produce and food items from local vendors.
MoMA PS1
Where better to take in experimental, thought-provoking art than MoMA PS1, the first nonprofit arts center devoted exclusively to contemporary art? Rotating exhibitions feature everything from modern photography and video art to participatory art installations.
Socrates Sculpture Park
Dedicated to public art, Socrates Sculpture Park is a NYC waterfront park and outdoor museum that provides local artists the space and the means to exhibit their large-scale pieces. With its free educational programs and workshops for youths and teens around artmaking, the Park makes a great family outing.
