At Farenga Funeral Home, we make sure to celebrate the fleeting season of spring every way we can. This year, we are especially excited to get back out there and enjoy the season alongside our loved ones and neighbors.
Here are our favorite spring activities in Greater Queens and beyond:
NYC Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival
Put on your most colorful hat and head over to the NYC Easter Parade and Bonnet Festival happening on Fifth Avenue from 49th to 57th Streets. This year, catch the parade on April 17 from 10 a.m. —4 p.m. One of the parades biggest draws is seeing the vibrant and outrageous Easter bonnets on display. Find out more about this free event here.
New York Botanical Garden’s Orchid Show
Each spring, the New York Botanical Garden hosts an annual Orchid Show, an exhibit that showcases this intriguing and beautiful flower in new and wonderful ways. This year, world-famous designer Jeff Leatham will be arranging a kaleidoscope of blooms to admire. Tickets are available here and can be purchased now until May 1.
Picnic at Queensbridge Park
This is a great time of year to gather the family for some free fun in one of the beautiful parks in Queens, such as Queensbridge Park with its picturesque view of the bridge and large green spaces that are perfect for picnicking. Watch the boats drift by on the river as you share food with those you love and enjoy the sunshine.
Welling Court Mural Project
With its warmer weather and longer nights, spring is a fantastic time to visit the Welling Court Mural Project, an inspiring community program that’s over a decade old now. This project revitalized the neighborhood of Welling Court with lively street art and graffiti for both residents and visitors to appreciate. It’s a great family activity that’s entirely free.
With New York theatre back in full swing again, now is a great time to catch a live Broadway show. Perhaps you’re interested in seeing a long-running classic musical like The Phantom of the Opera or the stage adaptation of Beetlejuice, a show that’s being revived after prematurely closing in March of 2020. Interested in scoring some cheap tickets? Head to one of the TKTS Discount Booths to purchase discounted same-day tickets to an evening performance.
No matter what the season holds in store, we want to wish all our families in Astoria and the surrounding area a happy spring!
