Camillo Carullo, age 92 of Astoria, NY, passed away November 19, 2020, in the comfort of his home. Camillo was born on November 19, 1928, to Maria Di Benedetto and Antonio Carullo. Camillo was best known by his friends and family as Charlie and Scrizze.

On April 25, 1954, Camillo married his first wife Maria Del Greco at St. Nicola in Orsogna, Italy. Two years later, Maria and Camillo welcomed twin girls, Rosa and Marilena on their anniversary. A few months after the girls were born, they came to America to offer a life of freedom and opportunity for their family, as they loved what the United States stood for.

At the young age of 34, Camillo became a single father and widower. When Maria passed away, her parents, Minuccia and Filippo came to America to help take care of Rosa and Marilena. Camillo was a family man, work and family were his priority. It was important for him to have his family, but something was missing without Maria around. In 1965, Camillo met and married Clorinda Di Sipio, and together they raised Rosa and Marilena.

Camillo and Clorinda embraced their Italian culture. They had many traditions they passed on to their family, such as making homemade sauce, canning, sausage, making homemade wine, gardening, and making cheese. Camillo was genuinely happy when he was with his friends and family at the Orsogna club for dinner dances and a night of card playing.

Camillo will be remembered for being a family man, and his way of showing love was with his actions, as he was a man of few words. The way he showed love was by sharing a big meal, his homemade wine, and being there to celebrate family. He was most known for how honorable, honest, and extremely hard-working he was.

Camillo is survived by his wife Clorinda Carullo, his children, Rosa Carullo, Marilena (Frank) Lugo, his grandchildren David Lugo, Maria (Cody) Englehardt, Tino (Giusippena) Del Greco, and great-grandchildren, Giuliana Del Greco, and Gabriella Del Greco. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Predeceased by his first spouse Maria Del Greco, and siblings, Rocco, Raffaele, Michele, Nicolo, Angela, Giuseppe, Camillo, Margherita, and Ida Carullo.

The family appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Fallen Limb

A limb has fallen from the family tree.

I keep hearing a voice that says, “Grieve not for me”.

Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.

The good life I lived while I was strong.

Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you.

Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.

My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.

Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.

Continue traditions, no matter how small.

Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls

I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.

Until the day comes we’re together again.
