Dear Dorothy, I never thought that we would never see each other again. I remember when I first met you at the Broadway school and you had the most stylish , lavender office; the design reflected your beautiful, warm personality. You always had time to listen to my issues through the years and give great advice. Thank you for your friendship.

My God please bless this woman's soul and invite her into your Kingdom. She was a woman that spoke into the lives of many and her work showed her gratitude to a life in you. May she be forever remembered for her good deeds and her compassion towards others! God bless you Ms. Brooks.

To the best BMCC mother I had and will miss very much. Thank you mom for the opportunity you gave me by accepting me and letting me work at BMCC. If it wasn't for you I would've never had this job. You believed in me and gave me this job. I will miss you a lot. I will always remember you and love you always. May you be in God's loving hands. R.I.P. Love your BMCC daughter Evelyn Noman.

Dorothy, A most wonderful lady-full of grace. When Hilvania introduced me to Dorothy, I thought "what a beautiful lady!" As I got to know her, I realized that her outter beauty was only surpassed by the generous, honest, loyal and beautiful spirit and heart within. It was a joy to spend time with Hilvania and Dorothy. She will always be with us shining her spiritual light and helping to guide her loved ones.

Remembering Dorothy brought me fond memories of her and sadness of her passing. She had a sense of humor that was infectious. She was the kind of person who meets people at whatever station they are in life. A compassionate person, always makes people feel welcome whether she knows the person or not. I usually compliment her about her high end fashion, sometimes teasing her, and she would give me that warm wicked smile and would return the compliment. There are also times when we would talk about spirituality and I know she has a firm belief in God. So, Ms. Brooks, I know you are in a much peaceful place and you are now gazing at the beautiful face of God. May eternal rest grant to you, may perpetual light shine upon you and may your soul rest in peace through the mercy of God.

My deepest condolences for the family of Dorothy Brooks on her passing. I knew Dorothy for more than 30 years while employed at BMCC. What I remember most about Dorothy was her smile since it elicited a sense of goodness and serenity. It was always a pleasure to chat with her whenever we saw each other particularly once the College moved to the new campus in Tribeca in the 1980's where I felt we all became part of a family. Dorothy, may you rest in peace.

I first met Ms. Brooks when I was a student at BMCC in the 70s. I came into contact with her on a daily basis since I did my work/study with the late Dr. Sample Pittman. Ms. Brooks was a very compassionate and friendly person and always had an inviting smile; to let you know that she was always there if you wanted to speak. She was very jovial and made the students who came into contact with her very relaxed. She was loved. After I graduated from BMCC and they moved to their present location I saw her once again as my journey in life took me in a different direction, even though I visited the campus once in a while. In 2007, I became an adjunct lecturer at BMCC but I never made contact with her. Now, this sad news, but I have the memories of my early days at BMCC when I met her. May she rest in peace. My condolences to her entire family Charles Mohan [Chuck]

Dorothy, I will miss you forever. The times when you came back to Detroit and stayed with Mom and had us all just rolling on the floor with laughter. And the times when we spent together when Bill and I would come to New York in the fall. We really had a good time when we came for Cameron's dance recital. Now you and Mom can hit those casinos in heaven. Love and miss you, Celeste and Bill

Dorothy, I knew you for almost forty years. You were not only my mentor and a friend, but you were also FAMILY. I knew you through the birth and raising of my children. You heard about and supported their accomplishments and you were as excited as I was when I became a grandmother. I will miss our phone calls and your stories that never bore anyone. I will always remember our yearly get together and our occasional brunches. Brunch reminds me of how you liked your bacon. If you knew Dorothy, you’d know that she liked her bacon extremely well done, she liked bacon burnt. You always made me smile. I have plenty of great memories to last me a lifetime. I will always love you and keep you very close to my heart. RIP, until we meet again!

So many fun memories with Dorothy; she was a generous gift giver in the Christmas. The highlight of our Christmas party was for everyone to pick a gift from Dorothy’s bag. Sometimes it ended with us fighting with each other. Dorothy was compassionate and always with patience listing to my whining. Thank God she is free and in a better place. I could almost picture her hurry busy putting on her eyelashes before talking the Jesus. I miss you, Dorothy. Love, Gloria

Dorothy is the reason I work in Human Resources and she set me on a path to success. I was visiting BMCC one day, a year out of high school, when Dorothy saw me sitting around and asked if I wanted a job. I told her I'd love one and she asked me to send her a resume right away. We worked together a few years before her retirement and I loved working alongside her. Her office always smelled like lotion and there was usually chocolate smeared on her keyboard or mouse. She was such a giving person also. We shared a love for rings and she gave me a beautiful burgundy ring one day that I still cherish. Yesterday I also found a cup that Dorothy gave the staff in HR- the cups had one word that described each of our best asset. She had such positive things to say about us. She was such a positive person and loved surrounding herself with positive people and laughter. Her spirit will be missed. Rest in peace, Dorothy. XOXO

After the interviews that led to my hiring at BMCC, Dorothy was the first person I dealt with. Through those first days on my new job, it was Dorothy who made me comfortable with the "employee" part of it, and helped make me feel that I had made the right choice among the handful of opportunities I was pursuing at the time. Since then, though we didn't interact very often, she always felt like a friend. I envy those who knew her better, and send my deepest condolences to them, who will miss her the most. Ave atque vale, Dorothy Brooks.

You helped me along when I started this job and your door was always open to anyone who came to see you. You always made me feel like I belonged. I think back at the times we laughed and you would say "Girl you can handle it" and you were right. I know you are with GOD now and you are in a better place. You will not be forgotten by the people who knew you. Rest in peace. Much love.

Dorothy was truly one of a kind. She wasn’t just someone that my mom worked with, but she was her mentor and her friend. I always remember going to my mom’s job and she would be there waiting for her hug, and boy did they have to be big ones. She saw us grow from little children to grown adults. She was there for the milestones in our lives and always congratulated us and sent us cards. She was family. She will be truly missed, but we know that she is in a better place and guarding us all.

Remembering 30 years of fun times with Dorothy since I met her with Hilvania Adams in the 70's. Always with a smile, always in some fabulous zebra outfit, always a Yes to any activity, always sensitive, wise, always had the right words for every situation...Last time we were all together was for the Bette Midler concert at Madison Square Garden in May and we went out afterwards to Ellen's Stardust Diner and we shared meatloaf and mashed potatoes...I miss her already. But she definitely did her life her way and on her terms till the very end, admirable. Sending love from Florida or I would be there . Love to all who loved her and mourn her and celebrate her! The memories I have of Dorthy I will cherish, I affectionately would call her my "Chocolate Mama". She was a pleasure to work with at NIP and such a gracious soul. I look forward to the fulfillment of the following text: "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs+ will hear his voice ... and will come out" John 5:28,29 Yes I look forward to seeing my "Chocolate Mama" in the promised earthly resurrection to come.
