Matt Burgess left a message on June 29, 2013:
Helen's home was such a big part of my childhood. I can still see the crocheted seat covers, the plastic-covered couch, the scrabble board on the table, and the many, many photographs of her warm and loving family. Most of all though I remember her tenderness. She was a warm and wonderful person and I miss her.
Courtney Burgess Michak left a message on June 23, 2013:
Helen was one of those rare individuals who was able to brighten your day just by being in her presence. When I was with Helen I felt love, compassion, kindness and the ability to a better version of myself. Her gentle spirt made her a strong influence in my life and the life of so many others. I believe the way she lived her life was her greatest lesson. I also know her legacy lives all in all the people she loved because she was a woman with so much love and grace. My love, prayers and sympathy to all of Helen's family and her extended family (all her friends.) Thank you Helen for so many wonderful memories and being a blessing in my life!
Mary Damiani left a message on June 23, 2013:
I remember with fondness what a good friend Helen was to me. She was quick with a smile, was considerate and kind, and always made me feel better when I was around her. I enjoyed our trips to the casino, but more importantly, I just enjoyed spending time with her. She was a special person. My prayers are with her family at this difficult time. Mary Damiani
Jennifer Abruzzo left a message on June 23, 2013:
Helen was one of the most warm, kind-hearted, thoughtful and generous individuals that I had the good fortune to know and love. I cherish all of the wonderful memories of her -- a warm, inviting home that me and my family frequented often; mouth-watering smells wafting upstairs to our apartment; delicious foods spread out during holidays; crochet needles clicking; laughter on the porch; and so much more. I witnessed her loving personality always shining through when interacting as a daughter to Yia Yia, a wife to Bill, a mother to Mark, Vicky, Dorothy and Chris, a grandmother to Elura, Caitlin and Emily, a godmother to my brother Chris, and a friend to my mom Sandy. I know that her wonderful spirit lives on in all of us and I am thankful for that. All my love, thoughts and prayers to her beautiful family. Jennifer Abruzzo (nee Burgess)
Chris Burgess left a message on June 23, 2013:
I want to offer most heartfelt condolences to the Nanos family. Helen was one of the sweetest, kind-hearted and good-natured people that I have ever met. It is with great pride that I call her my Godmother. She was always looking out for me when I was a kid playing ball in the street. Offering a soda, cookies or giving me money for the Mister Softee truck on a hot summer day. Always including me and my family at holidays, celebrations, etc. And Greeks know how to celebrate! I am sure she and Big Bill are still looking out for their wonderful family. Now they just have a better view. To Chris, Vicky, Dorothy, Mark, Elura, Emily, Catlin and the entire family, my deepest sympathy. I'd like to think that with her passing, the disease has now passed too and Helen is whole again. Warmest Regards, Chris Burgess
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Thank you, Yiayia, for always being you and for helping to make me become me. And for bringing spanakopita to my wedding. That was a stroke of genius.
