Ioannis Kakaounakis

Ioannis Kakaounakis age 71 of Stratford, CT beloved husband of Olga Himariotis Kakaounakis, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24, 2023, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Polyrrinia, Kissamos, Kriti on July 2, 1952 he was the son of the late George and Ekaterini Zouridaki Kakaounakis. He immigrated to America in 1976 and worked as a carpenter for over 40 years. He enjoyed watching soccer games, an avid Olympiakos fan, cooking and his Dunkin light and sweet coffee. But above all things, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father, pappou, great pappou and friend. He was at his best when surrounded by his family. Yianni was very charismatic, his sense of humor kept everyone on their toes. After retiring it gave him great joy to help watch his grandsons, by bringing them to school, sports practices and trips to the park. The unconditional love he gave and the values he taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by the love of his life, Olga who he shared 47 years with. His survivors also include his loving sons, Spiro, Manoli (Renee), his adored grandchildren Cassidy, Aristea, Katerina, George, Emanuel and his precious great granddaughter Aria. Siblings Filio Sifodaskalaki, Adonis Kakaounakis (Maria), Alexandra Kounelaki, Dimitrios Kakaounakis, Sister in law Chrisoula Kakaounakis, brother in law Yianni Himariotis (Eleni), Sofia Ballias (Kosta), Agathi Kourtesis (Alexi), Angeliki Georgakopoulos (Kosta), many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Mihalis and Emanuel.
Visitation to be held Thursday, October 5th from 5-8pm at Farenga Funeral Home 38-08 Ditmars Blvd Astoria, NY 11105
Burial will take place in Polyrrinia, Kissamos, Kriti
