In the twenty three years we have lived in Hicksville we have been the recipients of many kindnesses from our neighbors, Rose and Peter Travis. While all of those kindnesses were greatly appreciated, sometimes it is the little things in life which can be of greatest value, and, resonate the longest. For many years, walking my children to and from school, passing the Travis house was one of the little delights of the day. Peter was often outside, working about the yard, and when we passed he always gave us a warm "hello" and exchanged a few friendly words. Sometimes there were small, funny little gifts. It was a nice way to send the kids off for the day and a nice way to welcome them home. What was likely a very small and natural thing for him to do made for happy moments, and happy memories for our family. Peter was a sweet and gentle man and he will be both remembered and missed.
