
Raymond Casey
Raymond Casey, 70, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2021 at Bellevue Hospital
after suffering a Traumatic Brain Injury.
Raymond was known throughout his life as “Ray” & “Casey” but he was most proud
to be called, Firefighter Raymond Casey from Engine 5, Manhattan (1977-2002).
Raymond was the Loving Son of his deceased parents, Anna and William Casey;
Beloved Brother of Sheila Cocchi (Anthony Cocchi, brother-in-law), Maureen Casey
(Peter Supon, brother-in-law); Beloved Uncle to Jennifer Cocchi and Anthony Cocchi;
Beloved Step-Uncle to Denise Supon (Leo Mirza), Katherine Primachenko (Sergei
Primachenko) and Great Uncle to Fatima Mirza, Harris Mirza, Lily Primachenko and
Max Primachenko.
Raymond attended St. Rita’s Grammar School, Mater Christi High School, St. John’s
University where he studied American History and continued with his Masters at CUNY
and the Rye Institute where he followed his studies in Psychology. Raymond was called
to the New York City Fire Department in 1977 and continued his service to New York
City at Engine 5 throughout his career until his retirement in 2002.
Ray was very proud of growing up in Ravenswood in Long Island City and remained in
contact with many of his life-long friends from the neighborhood and college.
He also lived in Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan for close to 40 years where he loved to
play Basketball at the Local “Y” where he made many life-time friends.
Ray loved to travel and visited many countries throughout his lifetime. In January,
2020, Ray visited Duomo di Milano in Milan, Italy for his deep devotion to the Blessed
Mother. His Love for Basketball sustained him throughout his life and always said the
highlight of his life was traveling with the Knicks many years ago with his dear friend,
Peter Vecsey.
Ray Loved and was Loved by his family, friends and his FDNY Brothers throughout his lifetime.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation.
